I have been informed of the passing on the 10th February of William (Bill) Corless a long  serving member of Walton Vets. His funeral will take place at 16.40 on Monday 22nd February at Anfield  Crematorium. RIP

I have been informed of the passing of Tommy Clegg a well known member of Larkhill Alder. He previously was a member of the Clarence.  Funeral arrangements are not yet available.  RIP.

I have been informed by ASM of the passing of Brian Linford (84yrs). Brian played in the Pensioners League for many years both for ASM and APH. He won the League Handicap in 2016. His Funeral will place at 1pm on Wednesday 3rd March at Springwood Crematorium.  RIP

West Derby BC report the passing of John Davies one of their long standing members.  Funeral arrangements are not yet to hand.

I have been informed of the passing of Vic Hubbard a long serving member of the Richmond BC. Funeral arrangements are not yet available.

It is very unlikely that we will be holding an Annual General Meeting in January 2021 so I have taken the opportunity of circulating my Annual Report and Balance sheet to Club Secretaries and Committee members. Hopefully we will be in a position to hold a Spring Meeting, lets wait and see.

My Annual report for 2020 will be much shorter than in previous years. Will be be playing in 2021 at the moment will be in the lap of the gods.

At the start of 2020 I had the usual quantity of handbooks printed and some were distributed to Clubs, the remainder are cluttering up my house. Fortunately I was able to cover the cost of the books by a refund from the Sports Council who earlier in the year were giving out grants, some Clubs benefited from this. My intention sometime in the New Year is to circulate the remainder of the books together with a new complete set of fixtures with a request to Secretaries to delete the fixtures shown in the 2020 book. Hopefully these new fixtures will be on one sheet of paper which will makes things easier. The reason for the new fixtures is firstly that the dates of the published matches originally for 2020 will be wrong but mainly the withdrawal of WVC from the League, this is due to the loss of their green. They have been a member of this League for many years and I am sure the remainder of the Leagues Clubs will be sorry to see them leave. I understand their members are joining other Clubs.

In formulating the new set of fixtures I am thinking on the lines of starting them the first week in May, two reasons for this, 1, this will help Clubs who didn”t pay their Public Liability in 2020, the new Policy starts on the 1^st May, and also the more of a delay in commencing the League the better the chance of playing, the Covid situation at the fore front of my mind. It may well be that the first two/three weeks in April if we are able to play could be utilised with a couple of the League Compeitions, again we will have to wait and see.

The proposed prospects for 2021 have not been confirmed by any member of the Committee, we have not been in a position to hold a Committee Meeting, therefore I trust that they will agree with my suggestions. I will put a copy of this annual report on the web site this will allow interested members the opportunity of reading it,

I wish everyone a Happy New Year and hope that 2021 will be better than 2020 and that we can at least get some bowls matches completed.

I have been informed of the passing of Les Graves who was the Secretary of Springwood Pensioners for a number of years.  Funeral arrangements are  not yet available.

I wish to draw your attention to a scam which I feel originates locally. I received an e mail allegedly from Roy Cooke ( Merseyside President and Safe Guarding Officer) which contained a request to assist him with a project. I replied that I would assist and the following day received another e mail which stated that he was planning to surprise some members of staff with a gift and that he would like me to go to a local supermarkets and purchase 6 x £100 Google Play Cards and when purchased I had to take photographs of the PIN number on the card and the Payment Activation receipt. This means that the sender of the e mail benefits to the tune of £600 in this case and you are considerably out of pocket. Not having any experience with these cards I went out of curiosity to Morrisons to have a look at them. I didn”t do anything about them at the time but when I returned home I rang Roy and as expected he said that he didn”t know anything about the e mails but added that he had heard of a similar scam some time ago. Be very careful if you receive similar e mails, the MO might change a bit but if you agree to act as requested you could be out of pocket. Take care.

Walton Hall report the passing of one of their long standing members,  Ted Greenall. He was also a member of Walton Vets.  His funeral will take place at 11.20am on Tuesday 1st September at Anfield Crematorium.

I have been informed of the passing of Dave Fradgley a past Captain of Grant Pensioners BC.  His Funeral will take place at 10.30am on Wednesday 19th August at Springfield Crematorium and afterwards from 12noon at Cheshire Lines Club.

I have informed of the passing of Paul Vaughan who for a number of years was a member of Roby Pensioners BC. Funeral arrangements not yet available.

Walton Hall report the passing of Phil Riley. Phil was the  Secretary of Walton Vets for many years.   His funeral will take place at 2pm on Monday 3rd August at Emmanuel Church, Fazackerley and afterwards at Anfield Crematorium.

West Derby Bc report the passing of one of their members Geoff Taylor. No details regarding his funeral as yet available.

I have been informed of the passing of two very well known ex members of the Pensioners League, Ronnie Davies who was the Secretary of the League for a number of years and Cliff Massey who in the opinion of many good judges was one of the best bowlers who played on Merseyside. RIP gentlemen.

I have been informed of the passing of Bill Grimoliby of Larkhill Alder. This is the third member of that Club who has passed away in the last 10 days.

Arriva Pensioners BC announce the sudden passing of one of their members Anthony Murtagh. His funeral is on the 6th April but will be a family gathering only.

I have been informed of the passing of  two members of Larkhill Alder BC. Tom Thornton  and Ronnie Johnstone.  I have no further details.

I have been informed of the passing of Norman Sharp of the Gardeners Allenby. Norman was into his nineties and was well known for his generosity  in  supplying everyone with coffee at bowling matches. He was also a member of West Derby BC. Funeral arrangements are not yet available.

I have been informed of the passing of Billy Grayson who played latterly at the Olympic BC but for many years at the old KAH. Billy’s funeral will take place at 2 pm  on Tuesday  17th March at St. Mary’s Church,  Kennelwood Avenue, Northwood Kirkby L33 6UE. RIP Billy.

A Safeguarding Course will be held at 6 pn Tuesday 31st March at Mossley Hill Athletic, Mossley Hill Road, Liverpool, L18 8DX

This is for Club Safeguarding Officers and any other person wishing to attend. All those attending will receive a certificate to show that they have taken the course. There will be a cost of £15.00 per person payable on the night by cash or cheque (cheques made payable to BCGBA).

The course will cover many aspects concerning safeguarding and will give you an insight on the role of a Safeguarding Officer.

If anyone wishes to apply for a DBS certificate, we will have the application forms available to complete. They will need to bring their driving licence, passport, a utility bill to prove address and proof of their National Insurance number.

If you wish to attend please let me know as soon as possible to book your place.

I have been informed of the passing of John Henderson a member of Brenesc for many years.   His funeral will take place at 10.30am on Monday 24th February 2020 at Our Lady of Walsingham Church, Netherton ( Junction of Dunningsbridge Road and Park Lane) followed by internment at Bootle Cemetary at 12noon.

I have been informed of the passing of Peter Gilman who played at the Gardeners for many years.  His funeral will take place at 3.30pm on Thursday 23rd January 2020 at Springwood Crematorium Rosemary Chapel.

At the Leagues Annual General Meeting held on the 15th January 2020 the following changes to the Leagues Rules were passed.

Any Home Team bowlers who practise in the 15 minutes allocated to the away team will not be allowed to take part in the match on that day.

Should a team play an unregistered player the opposing team will be awarded the maximum points for the match.

A proposal to revert to the previous years rule of awarding points in league matches instead of the point a man rule was defeated.
