Roby Pensioners report the passing of John Byrne.  His funeral will take place at 11.30a.m. on Friday 17th September 2021 at Margaret Marys Church, Pilch Lane, Huyton.

The following games have been re-arranged :

Calderfield v Olympic – Wednesday 8th September

Calderfield v Arrive – Tuesday 5th October.

Olympic v Springwood – Tuesday 5th October.

Mossley Hill Athletic Club have run a winter bowls league over the past 7 years, normally we have 8 teams, with 8 a side games . This means a game each week for every team, either on a Monday or Wednesday. The season normally runs from October to mid December, with a break to mid January then through to March. There is a league format and two cup competitions, one individual and one pairs, these are handicapped. Also there are end of season individual and pairs competitions.  For teams there are costs of £10 league fees and £8 per cup competition, plus £2 for every player registered and £1 per player for each league game. All league and cup fees are paid out as prize money, weekly fee goes to the club  The surface is an artificial green and whilst some people do not think this is true bowls, it does mean that it is very unusual that games are postponed due to the weather.Currently teams are not all strictly based on summer club teams and it’s quite likely you know someone who plays there.

Due to the extraordinary conditions of last year we now have vacancies for 2 teams, if as a club, or as an individual you would like to play, then please contact either of the people listed below.  Please note that in order to draw up fixtures closing date for teams will be; 30^th September players will be allowed to join teams up to; 31^st Decembe

I have been informed of the passing of Alan Robinson.  Alan was the secretary of the old Wavertree team and on their disbanding joined Larkhill Alder B.  He was also a past member of the League Committee.  Funeral arrangements not yet to hand.

There is a vacancy for anyone wishing to form a team to play on the long mat at Halewood during the forthcoming winter.  Anyone interested please contact me.

I have been inform of the passing of Bob Beaumont of Larkhill Pensioners BC.  He was 93 years of age.  Funeral arrangements not yet to hand.  Ron Holt

I have been asked by a number of Clubs what the situation is with regards to continuing in 2022 with 2 Divisions or reverting to 3.  The League Committee has discussed this with the following result.  In 2022 we will continue with 2 Divisions.  There will be promotion and relegation from this seasons league tables, ie 2 up and 2 down.  Prize money will be paid on the first three places in each Division.  RH.

With regards to the Temporary Rule Change there have been a number of situations which have occurred causing confusion in addition to ill feeling. The main problem has been when a team has been short of players the team with a full complement has refused to select players to play again and claimed 21 – 0 for each player missing. The League Committee has discussed this resulting in the decision that if a team refuses to select a player(s) they CANNOT claim the games 21 – 0. and no points will be awarded for the absent players. It has also been suggested by the Committee that if a team are short of players four cards should be placed face downwards for the team with a full complement to select the players to play again. The full ramifications of this rule will be discussed in full at the next AGM.

I have been informed of the passing of Billy Bennett a member of Roby Pensioners.  Billy played for a number of years at the Gardeners.  Hiis funeral will take place at 3.p.m. on Tuesday 10th August 2021 at Springwood Crematorium..  Entrance to the Chapel is by invitation only.   Ron Holt.
